Maddock Center for Radiation Oncology Donates $2,500 to the American Cancer Society

Funds will help support the Society’s Relay For Life, Warwick Event

WARWICK, RI – May 19, 2005 – Today, Dr. Philip G. Maddock and Dr. Steven C. Lane of the Maddock Center for Radiation Oncology presented a $2,500 donation to the American Cancer Society in support of the Society’s Relay For Life, Warwick. Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, Relay team captain; Patrick McCaffery, event co-chair and Michael Vivian, Community Executive for Development and event co-chair, accepted the donation on behalf of the American Cancer Society. This presentation took place during an Open House the Maddock Center hosted for area physicians to celebrate the practice’s name change from Radiation Oncology Services of Rhode Island.

“We have long supported the local events and activities of the American Cancer Society,” said Dr. Philip G. Maddock, radiation oncologist and founder of the Maddock Center for Radiation Oncology. “We strongly believe in the American Cancer Society’s mission and both Dr. Lane and I felt that the celebration of our practice’s name change was a timely occasion to support next month’s local Relay For Life.”

“Dr. Maddock, Dr. Lane and their staff provide not only exceptional medical care, but also the compassion, understanding and empathy that are so important for their patients and those who care for them.” Said Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian. “On behalf of the residents of Warwick, I am delighted to extend my congratulations to them as they celebrate their practice’s name change, along with my heartfelt thanks for their generous donation to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.”

“On behalf of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in Warwick, we are extremely grateful for this generous contribution by the Maddock Center. The Relay For Life represents a community that cares about cancer coming together as one. Certainly, the Maddock Center is a true example of leadership and dedication in the fight against cancer,” said Mr. McCaffrey.

The American Cancer Society’s annual Relay For Life is a national event that will be held in 14 locations throughout the state this year, including June 17-18 at Pilgrim High School in Warwick. Participants remain present throughout the 18-hour event, walking in shifts, to raise funds for American Cancer Society programs of research, education, advocacy, and local patient services.
