| Warwick, RI—May
10, 2005—Founded in 1984 in Warwick, RI, Radiation Oncology
Services of Rhode Island (ROSRI) has been treating cancer patients
for more than 20 years. Today, Philip G. Maddock, MD FRCR and
Steven C. Lane, MD DABR are pleased to announce the practice is
changing its name to Maddock Center for Radiation Oncology.
“We’re very happy about our new name and logo. We
think it makes a better connection between the nature and quality
of the care we provide than our original name,” said Dr.
Steven Lane. “Plus, our associates have been calling us
‘Maddock’s place’ for years. We finally decided
to make the name change official since it more accurately reflects
the history of the Center and its personal atmosphere.”
Maddock Center for Radiation Oncology is one of the most advanced
radiation therapy treatment centers in the region. The Center
provides state-of-the-art radiation therapy under the supervision
of two of the most respected radiation oncologists in the Northeast.
To date, it has always been the first radiation oncology service
in Rhode Island to implement new and better treatment technologies
as they have become available.
Dr. Philip Maddock said, “Rhode Islanders have always had
the best radiation oncology treatment available right here in
Warwick. Our facility has consistently invested in the latest
treatment technologies as they become available. For example,
in 1998, our Center was the first to introduce High Dose Rate
(HDR) Brachytherapy. We installed the first IMRT-capable linear
accelerator in 2000. The Center also utilizes the latest three-dimensional
and IMRT treatment planning software. All of our capabilities
enable us to develop and administer all patient treatment planning
and customized therapies on site.”
To celebrate the practice’s name change, the Maddock Center
is holding an Open House on Saturday, May 21 from 1:00 to 3:00
p.m. The public is welcome to visit and get valuable sun safety
tips from the American Cancer Society, see DermaScan demonstrations,
enjoy light refreshments and learn about the state-of-the-art
technologies the Maddock Center uses to treat cancer. “Since
summer is coming, we feel our Open House is an excellent opportunity
to remind Rhode Islanders about the importance of protecting themselves
from the sun. We encourage everyone to use a sunscreen with SPF15
or higher,” Dr. Lane added. “We look forward to meeting
members of our community on May 21.”
Maddock Center is the only radiation oncology practice in the
Northeast to specialize in unique, handcrafted plesiotherapy treatments
for hard-to-treat or disfiguring skin cancers on facial or other
delicate areas. The physicians at the Maddock Center have also
developed innovative therapies for rare skin cancers using customized
moulds and plaques in combination with a nucletron microSelectron
HDR Brachytherapy system.
Maddock Center for Radiation Oncology is one of the most advanced
radiation therapy treatment centers in the region. Maddock Center
differs from other area treatment centers by its high therapist
to patient ratio, its level of personalized patient care, and
its willingness to invest in the latest technologies as they become
available. It is the only free standing Center that has a staff
Internist available five days a week. Additionally, all patient
treatment plans and customized therapies are developed and administered
on site. For more information about the Open House please call
