Treatment
When it is time for your treatment, you will be helped onto a treatment
table by the radiation therapists who will adjust your position to
set up the treatment field. Once you are positioned, the therapists
will ask you to remain still until otherwise instructed.
During treatment, the therapists do not stay in the room with you
but will monitor you on a television screen and will stay in contact
with you through an intercom. Once treatment begins you may hear the
noise of the machine—a humming/clicking sound. You will not
see or feel the treatment. Once the machine has run for the prescribed
time, it shuts off automatically. The therapists will then re-enter
the room and help you off the table.
"On-treatment" Reviews
While you are on-treatment at the Maddock Center, you will be carefully
monitored by our clinical team—the doctors and the radiation
therapists. The physicians will examine you at least once a week or
more often as needed. Periodically, blood tests, x-ray exams and/or
other tests may be ordered. As your treatment progresses, Dr. Maddock,
Dr. Lane or Dr. Blackman will help you manage any side effects, note
any physical changes, keep in contact with your referring physician
and, if necessary, recommend other forms of treatment to achieve the
best care and results.
